Almost a third of everything we eat depends on pollination. As a result, the honey bee provides most of the commercial pollination in the United States and they are very beneficial. However, if you have a neighbor or if you want to become a beekeeper, the bees in your hives will provide necessary pollination to your neighbors as well. This talk will include: responsible bee management, where to find a beekeeper, how to get into beekeeping and you will have a chance to ask questions about honey bees. And most daunting: What would we do without honey bees?

11:00 Bio-energy Crop Possibilities for Ohio
Harold Watters, OSU Extension, Field Specialist for Agronomic Systems for West Central Ohio
Corn today is the big bio-energy crop, but will that continue? Some work has been done in Ohio on Miscanthus, switchgrass, tree harvest for energy, and on sweet sorghum all for ethanol. Soybeans and even canola for bio-diesel are also being studied. The growing conditions and the local market will drive this interest. The Agronomic Crops Team provides education on producing crops - we'll also supply education on production practices for these new crops, too.

This presentation will discuss current regulation of child labor on farms, including age and occupation specific prohibitions. The speaker will also briefly discuss the changes recently proposed by the Department of Labor to the agriculture child labor regulations.
